New VC Bloggers

One Comment

Last week it crossed my mind that I hadn’t seen any new VC bloggers in a while.  Suddenly – in a matter of days – three popped up: Bijan Sabet (Spark Capital), George Zachary (Charles River Ventures), and Rob Hayes (First Round Capital).  I’ve invited them all to the FeedBurner Venture Capital Network.  If you are a VC blogger and not in the network, drop me an email.

The Power of Information

One Comment

I’ve gotten to know my neighbors in Homer, Alaska – the Schallock’s – over the past two summers.  They are great folks and the two kids – Jessica and Eric – are stars.  Eric and I are learning Ruby together (and about to graduate to Ruby on Rails) and Jessica is turning into a super blogger.  She’s also got a monthly column in The Homer Tribune – pretty cool for a senior in high school.  Jessica is a great writer, extremely smart, and very thoughtful – her column this month titled Information Can Prevent Further Harm is well stated.  I’m proud of Jessica and I wish I knew more teenagers that would take the same intellectual risks she takes.

The World’s Greatest Chocolate Ice Cream

In addition to trying to reform the health care system, my dad is on a quest to become a Chocolate Ice Cream Making Superstar.  Chocolate ice cream has always been a mainstay of our family’s diet – I can think of few things more satisfying than chocolate ice cream covered with chocolate syrup (very few.)  My dad now has an ice cream maker and is looking for recipes – if you love chocolate ice cream, give him some suggestions (it will improve the quality of my life in the long run.)

My dad (Stan Feld) has a great post up about why he blogs.

New VC Blog – Nisan Gabbay – Startup Review

Comments (4)

Nisan Gabbay – an analyst at Sierra Ventures – has started a neat new blog called Startup Review.  Unlike so many other VC bloggers that pontificate on generic issues around entrepreneurship and venture capital (egads – is that a mirror I see – Amy – please put that down) Nisan is taking a very different approach.  In his words:

Startup Review will be a blog that profiles successful Internet start-ups in a case study format. The case studies will be fairly detailed, analyzing the key factors that made the companies successful, with an emphasis on strategy and product decisions. Each case study will also have sections discussing launch strategy, exit analysis, and links to other good analysis on the company.

Rather than overwhelm us with posts, he’s going to focus his efforts on one substantive case study each week.

My plan is to publish one case study per week, as I plan to devote
about 10 hours to creating each case study. I am committed to staying
the course, but nothing helps better with motivation than seeing my
Feedburner stats climb – so tell your friends about this blog!

His first case study is Craigslist.  I think this is a great idea for a VC / entrepreneurship oriented blog – hats off to Nisan for tackling this.  If you are interested, subscribe here to Startup Review.
