Brad,

You should stop running marathons. They are extremely bad for your health.

At some point you may have been in such poor shape that any form of exercise was an improvement, but now that you are doing better you should find something that doesn't destroy your body.

The best thinker on the problems with marathons is Art De Vany (<a href="http://www.arthurdevany.com/). " target="_blank">http://www.arthurdevany.com/). </a> Here is a link to a particularly relevant post: <a href="http://www.arthurdevany.com/?p=1262 " target="_blank">http://www.arthurdevany.com/?p=1262 </a>(Top Ten Reasons Not To Run Marathons). Here is reason #5:

"5. Marathon running damages your brain. The damage resembles acute brain trauma. Marathon runners have elevated S100beta, a marker of brain damage and blood brain barrier disfunction. There is S100beta again, a marker of cancer and of brain damage.

From Marchi, et al Restor Neurol Neurosci, 2003; 21 (3-4): 109-21, “S100beta in serum is an early marker of BBB openings that may precede neuronal damage and may influence therapeutic strategies. Secondary, massive elevations in S100beta are indicators of prior brain damage and bear clinical significance as predictors of poor outcome or diagnostic means to differentiate extensive damage from minor, transient impairment.”"

Wish you the best as you look for a healthier exercise routine...

Perhaps due to my eternal love for Virginia I find myself wanting more details about your travel there. What areas are you planning on seeing?

Brad maybe you'll get to meet Joe when you find Main Street! He'll probably tell you that he's mad as hell and isn't going to take the rancor in Washington anymore. Have fun and run fast. I'm off to Boston next week as well, so if we happen to run into each other this time it will be below 14k feet.

Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are some of the most beautiful places I've seen in the U.S. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

I don't know how you do all that traveling all the time...but at least you've seen some great things along the way. Good luck in your marathon (what is your goal time for this one, or do you have one?)!

Have fun in Bah Habah. Should be good conditions to run - not Atlanta-like.
