NetNewsWire on the iPhone

I’ve heard from several people that NetNewsWire on the iPhone is awesome.  While I’m not a Mac user, I’m anxiously awaiting my new iPhone (Ross promises that I’ll have it – along with Exchange sync – on Monday).  In the mean time, I’m psyched that my friends at NewsGator have once again harnessed the software wizardry of Brent Simmons to create a fully-features RSS Reader – based on NetNewsWire – that runs on the iPhone.  If you have an iPhone you can get it for free at the AppStore now.  I know I will on Monday.

I think iPhones, Blackberries and all that stuff is a huge time killer. We should all take a lesson from Timothy Ferris, and ditch the Crack-berries.

I don't have an iPhone yet (getting it tomorrow), but I have already downloaded NNW from the iTunes App Store. I am really looking forward to having NNW on my phone. Especially with all the work NewsGator has done using NewsGator.com as a hub to keep feeds and read status in sync across devices.

I know it is not going to have all of the features of the full NNW, but if it has clippings I will be very pleased.

Bruce – I’ll forward this on to Brent Simmons who wrote the app and see if your performance issue is typical.  Given that you are downloading 7500 unread items over the old AT&T network (not the 3G one since I assume you haven’t done a time warp and gotten the new iPhone the day before it is released) I’m going to guess that it’s the amount of data associated with the unread items that are slowing you down.  Of course, if you did this over WiFi my point isn’t relevant.

yup, it's over the wifi at home. I haven't yet tried it over edge. I totally assume that it's a data issue with the unread stuff.

Just upgraded to 2.0 and installed nnw on the iphone right away. i can attest that it's completely bad ass. sync works amazingly well and quickly with NNW on my mac. great stuff, as usual, from NG.

Fair warning — the first time starting up NNW it took a fairly long time to load the feeds and get everything synced up. I'm also finding the scroll response time when all my feeds are loaded is surprisingly and painfully slow. Not sure if the problem is just the number of feeds (208) or number of unread posts (~7500) or what…
