Truly an amazing town and the ocean-side drive, while many in the valley will not believe me, really tops Highway 1. I wouldn't believe it if you told me but the cliffs and scenic overlook on the water is truly a sight to see. I have always wanted to go! Is it heavily trafficked, though? I did research on ancient cities in Greece and Turkey and ultimately preferred the emptiness and lack of guards/marked paths in Turkey. Otherwise, just enjoying the city and stunning views is the best. Oh, and the hike up to the tennis court. A must eat restaurant is Donna Rosa way up on top of the hill. There were many people there visiting (probably 1,000) and it's "touristy", but it's so large than I often found our small group (of three, we had a private guide) pretty "alone" in the city. near the central square, etc, there were throngs. but at times, i literally felt as though i could have been walking around just as the Romans did. It's much larger than I had envisioned, and just amazingly well preserved.
