Intense Debate Integrates Twitter

As I wander around in my own little virtual universe, I lovingly look for all the ways the various content I create gets wired together.  I have a twitter account, a blog (well – several), and am using Intense Debate for my comment system of my blog.

imageThe Intense Debate guys just did a neat integration with Twitter.  I had already put my Twitter name (bfeld) into the Intense Debate profile information.  Now – my most recent tweet shows up when you mouse over my picture on an Intense Debate comment.

You can also go directly to my blog, Facebook, profile, Linkedin profile, and Twitter account.  Now any comments I leave a on a blog using Intense Debate is subtly getting wired into my social network.

Next up – look for Lijit to start indexing this data also (hint to the gang on the third floor of 1050 Walnut.)

This website uses IntenseDebate comments, but they are not currently loaded because either your browser doesn't support JavaScript, or they didn't load fast enough.

You can segregate through subject matter.

I agree with Brian – its a cool integration and provides more depth to the commenter but unless you want everything you do, everywhere (online), synced up and indexed and searchable its time to think twice about what you post where and where it will be replayed.

I would have preferred to see this implemented as an opt-in…in my mind there is a difference in intent when a user clicks on my profile, then clicks through to my twitter account vs seeing my twitter posts as soon as they mouse over my avatar on a comment.

I havent tried integrating it yet for fear that it may become just too much but after your review, it seems like it may be worthwhile.
The question is, as Brian pointed out, do you want to be able to segregate information and if so, how can we do it.

The twitter integration is completely under control. You enter (or don't enter) the twitter account into your Intense Debate profile information. If you don't want to integrate twitter, you simply leave it blank!

Aha. It looks like you have to put in your Twitter URL AND check the box that says Use my latest Twitter messages.

I need to take time to consider the implications of all these services being wrapped together, as they're starting to become. I might not necessarily want the same people who find me on LinkedIn to read my Twitters or find me on Facebook. Of course all that is configurable, but warrants some forethought…

It was only a matter of time before this happened as twitter and intense debate are 2 great platforms.
