It seems like your list of potential adverse impacts to review should also include loss of key personnel or management shakeups, which as you know usually portend a lower probability of success, or at least of great success.

Interesting. It seems like attack of the auditors. I'm always intrigued by the accounting profession's urgent need to quantify the unquantifiable. Look at their quixotic quest to value intangibles. What they fail to understand is that the ambiguity of valuation around these topics is exactly what creates the capital markets. One man's goodwill is another man's write-off.

Great topic….. My partners and I were a little concerned about the FAS 157 issues, and how we were going to keep up with the new requirements. Being a smaller firm, our investments are few compared to some, but we still had concerns and were looking for comparables to use for the valuations. We were introduced to a product a few months ago at a conference that has helped. We were a little skeptical at first, but after looking closer at the information, our accountants (audit team) agreed that the info at the pedatacenter.com is a great resource. The deal term analysis and valuation information is reliable and has helped us cut costs and time in keeping up with the FAS 157 issues. We have used VentureSource in the past for some assistance in this matter, but the valuation information at the pedatacenter.com site is more comprehensive and much easier on the budget.
