Tom,

Great question! MadKast is much more powerful than AddThis. AddThis only allows users to bookmark content to share with other people; on the other hand, madKast also allows users to send content via e-mail and MMS. In addition, madKast remembers all friends' contact information across sites after it is entered for this first time. MadKast also allows you to use any existing social bookmarking tools -- which is really the only aspect which makes it similar to Addthis.

Finally, in the not too distant future, madKast will be rolling out detailed analytics packages for bloggers/publishers as well as ad sharing network.

Bottom line is that AddThis only has a small subset of madKast's functionality.

We hope you'll check madKast out.

Cheers.

Josh

@ Tom

This is Doug Ludlow with madKast. Just thought I would provide a (fairly detailed) answer to your question about the differences between madKast and AddThis!

AddThis is primarily concerned with social bookmarking. They provide a VERY large list of social bookmarking sites - everything from the popular (Facebook and Digg) to the obscure.

madKast combines social bookmarking with sharing through email and MMS. We let our users send posts to their friend's email addresses and mobile phones. We also provide the most popular social bookmarking services - the services that make up about 95% of all social bookmarking.

In addition, AddThis works in a popup window, while madKast functions in a javascript / ajax window - this means we don't ever have to worry about popup blockers.

Finally, madKast stores the contacts you send posts to - for example, just enter in your friend's email address once, and the next time you use madKast, we'll remember your friend's contact info, so you don't have to type it in again.

I hope this answers some of your questions about the differences between madKast and AddThis! Feel free to email me at Doug [at] madKast [dot] com if you have any more questions!

Interesting concept. I would be interested to know how it differs from existing services like: <a href="http://www.addthis.com/." rel="nofollow">http://www.addthis.com/.</a>

Thanks, Tom

That's cool. Took all of 15 seconds to set up in Typepad and works like a champ.

Nifty!

Indeed, the install is easy and fast. I use Movable Type and it dropped right in as advertised. Note: I have two blogs (one for photos, one for misc) and you need to get different code for each one. When it didn't work on the second blog I emailed Doug and he got back with the answer within a couple minutes. Sweet.

Broke something when I installed it. Maybe it's cause I'm not running normal blog software.
