I am watching you from me.dium right now! Hi Brad, I like your post, I reviewed me.dium and found it just as you described. I expected, as I am sure you did, that they might have a traffic jam, but I think they kicked in the new server. Phil

Stephen - you are in the "signed up but not yet authorized queue." The login in message is not as clear as it could be - I've suggested a change to "Thanks for signing up for Me.dium. There are X people ahead of you in the authorization queue. We are authorizing people as fast as we feel that we can while still maintaining a great user experience. Thanks for being patient."

Scaling this service is an amazingly difficult challenge. The guys at Me.dium have consciously decided to throttle authorizations rather than have it wide open and constantly falling over because of load. They are making progress each week on scale - 10x improvements are happening regularly right now, but it's a function of actually stressing the system and understanding where the choke points are.

I've been involved in a number of companies that had massive scale ramp ups. This is the most challenging I've ever seen in terms of what it is trying to do.

I've been a member of Me.dium for about three days, but have yet to be able to get onto the system. Every time I try, I get the following message:

Me.dium is experiencing a high number of users at this time. You will receive an email when your account is fully activated. Thanks for your patience. See you in Me.dium soon!

Oh well, hopefully I'm able to get on soon.
