Brad:

Great interview! I was just writing about this - the feature threshold is rising for new Web 2.0 services that are coming to the market now. The very early startups in this particular "fishing hole" could get away with a minimal approach when the concepts of tagging, social networks, collective intelligence, et al were new.

Good to see that this change is getting more attention!

Brad,

Your interview was good.

After reading your interview, I read the article "Make-or-Break Time For The Net Newbies".

There is an example here, at least for me, and maybe for some others:

I like your blog and read it. I don't like 'BusinessWeek' and mostly don't read it. For an example of why, I liked your interview and did not like the article.

Your interview was informative.

The article seemed to have a special goal of trying to entertain the reader by creating for them a vicarious escapist fantasy experience (VEFE), in this case, letting people who regard themselves as in the "real world" of main street US business and not pursuing Web 2.0 companies feel good that they are one up on the "net newbies" of Web 2.0 companies as they struggle with "the real world".

Yesterday read a little of G. Soros and his idea about "far from equilibrium" situations. For me, what 'BusinessWeek', along with much of the media, is doing with VEFE goals instead of being informative is an example of the Soros idea.

If your blog can beat 'BusinessWeek', and for me it does overwhelmingly, then maybe media content is in for a big change. For this I am not holding my breath, taking short positions, or expecting big results this year, but it does appear that maybe, finally the media's far from reality and "far from equilibrium" compulsion of 'drama' and VEFE is due for a fall.

Actually I prefer my bottled water warm. And - I won't drink French bottled water unless it's Perrier except when I'm in Mexico, in which case I prefer chilled Evian.

"Since I only do interviews by email"

Do you also ask for 3 bottles of Evian at 2 degrees below room temp in your dressing room?

Just busting your balls man...actually the only reason I caught it was because I think I discovered your blog through a (non-email apparently) interview you did about running.

Interesting thoughts. My opinion is that funding shouldn't be needed until the startup has to scale. At that point, you obviously have a proven concept, customers, and everything else to support a potentially profitable business.

"Since I only do interviews by email"

That ensures there's a solid record of what's said :)
