In a different way, you are serving that "mentor" role to all of us regular readers as you pass on the lessons you have learned. You are in a position that a lot us get up early and stay late just to get a shot at achieving.

Inspiring post that makes me recall the mentoring moments that you've had with me. Thanks for that Mr. Feld.

Great post, Bred.
Having a mentor makes your growth faster and life prettier. One is lucky to get an experienced mentor but how to find one? Especially when the coaching is in a professional plane?

I tried to draw my thoughts on that here:

<a href="http://roman-rytov.typepad.com/miles/2006/11/how_to_find_a_m.html" rel="nofollow">http://roman-rytov.typepad.com/miles/2006/11/how_to_find_a_m.html</a>

Brad, this was a great post and I hope your thoughts make the book. I don't think the value of mentors through all phases of life can be understated. From random advice you can get via email (like the kind you've given me!) to routinely meeting with people and having deeper conversation, these relationships make it possible to get so much more out of one life.

Truly great insight. The union of Mentor & Mentee - and their role transition...that's quite a gem.

Brad, this is a great post. Very inspiring and enlightening. A great lesson of life: if one focuses on the giving part, what one gets back just kind of takes care of itself. Enduring relationships are about giving.

cheers,
Graeme

Kismet that I sort of stumbled on this post. I was just incorporating your "co-mentoring" concept into an organizational structure/business plan trying to explain it as a cost reduction/efficiency elevator in terms of "forward moving internal controls" for a start-up trying to maximize its personnel and invested funds in Phase I (pre-revenue). I hope you don't mind if I borrow "co-mentoring" in my glossary!

It's also a nice time when the shift occurs between a father and son!
