PRoales - a few folks go straight into the next project. However, most take a little time (3 months to 12 months) off to recharge. I'm a strong proponent of taking a good chunk of time completely off - similar to my three weeks of no running after a marathon.

Hm... I've never been a great fan of sports psychology personally since I've always found that the best training for an endurance event is the training itself. After getting out the door on a rainy, cold, windy day when my schedule says 6 hour ride and 1 hour run and actually complete the workout is all the mental training I've ever needed. Racing is never hard - training to race is the hard part, especially when life seems to offer more immediate payoff.

First 75% of the race is fun, 75-95% sucks more than anything, and by the last 5% I'm thinking that racing is the best thing ever... and entrepreneurship is the same.

Do you think serial entrepreneurs need a break away from the pressures of a startup between companies? Do you see more people take a year or two off (maybe just to do a "normal" job) or do you see them go straight from project to project?

ive been through many hours of sports psychology and let me offer one piece of advice that can help you in section c. before the race, and really almost every day for that matter, recite your favorite song, poem, lyric, etc, the longer the better, and repeat. slowly you will start to hear two versions in your heard-- one in real time, and the next is a previsualization of the coming lines. when you get to those lines, you won't screw it up since you have already been there. it will not be long before you are able to translate this to running, and see yourself ahead of your next step.
