Now, why can’t I just clone my wifi connection setup and enable the one I want to use, as appropriate? Sigh.

This works (and is easier) on Macs too. All you have to do is enable Internet Connection in the Sharing preferences and create a Computer-to-Computer Airport network.

Anyone within range and with the password you set is online – voila – no settings or configuration needed on the slave machine at all.

Mary and I used the EVDO hack at home before we could get broadband in Vermont. In fact, it’s still our plan B for outages.

One drawback is non-technical – spousal rage when the user of the master computer reboots for some nerdish reason or another.

That is a great tip…this card is one of the best tech toys I have ever bought…my caffeine consumption on the road has declined and I don’t have to renew my red carpet membership…this trick will make it even better.
