Quote of the Day – Murderers and Trumpets

My wife Amy sent me the following Voltaire quote (via A Word A Day).

It is forbidden to kill; therefore all murderers are punished unless they kill in large numbers and to the sound of trumpets.

Ahhh. That is what Raskolnikov missed in his quest to be outside the law and a great man. He only killed two people.

Fascinating book, Crime and Punishment. I think this “dangerous idea” is a universal theme…I keep running across it.
