A Perfect Day In Homer

Every now and then someone asks why I spend a chunk of time in the summer in Homer, Alaska.  Amy took a few pictures that tell most of the story.

That’s the view from the living room.  Now – turn your head right.

On a clear day, you can see Mount Iliamna.  That dude is 200 miles away and rises about 10,000 feet out of the ocean.  Now – go left.

Voila – the Grewingk Glacier.  Make sense?

Ok, now I'm a little jealous. I made my first trip to Boulder last fall for the Buffs v Texas A&M football game and fell in love. Now, these shots of your views in Homer?!?!

You suck... :-)

Seriously though, what a beautiful place to sit, read and just take time to enjoy. I hope you have invested in some appropriate glass (binoculars/telescope/camera) to watch the wildlife up there.

Being a reader of your blog it continues to surprise me that you frequently use "dude".

It's a combination of the 14 year old in me trying to get out, my periodic (and unsuccessful) attempt to be cool, and my great love for the Jeff Bridges character in The Big Lebowski.

WOW.

Yeah, but I bet it rains 95% of the summer...?

It's been a really nice two weeks - it's cloudy about 50% of the time and brilliant blue sky about 50% of the time. As we get later in the summer, we get more rain. Apparently it rained all of June so hopefully the weather gods wore themselves out.

You are a brave man...it won't be long until someone calls you a callous show off...

Btw it looks beautiful!

Definitely more beautiful than my view of the Menlo Park Avenue parking lot :-).
