My quest for naming bathrooms, er – outhouses, continues. This one was named by Steve Lipsher of the Denver Post, for me on a recent trip of his. As I haven’t inspected it, I can’t guarantee cleanliness, but hopefully my name will add a little bit of warmth to the experience.
Look for another big bathroom announcement tonight at the Boulder New Tech Meetup which I’ll be attending.
It’s Monday and I’m back in Boulder after being on the east coast for three weeks. My partner Jason Mendelson got me possibly the best remote control toy ever.
Even though I’d love to stick around Boulder all week, I’m heading to DC tomorrow and then NY for a day. Oh well.
I hate Christmas music. Hate, hate, hate. Call me Grinch Feld. I don’t care. It just makes me want to poke knitting needles in my ears to stop it. Amy and I were in City Market grocery shopping the other day and at some point I had to go outside and scream. It felt good enough that I was able to go back in the store and finish buying greek yogurt and vegetables.
Yesterday I got a note from David Cohen with an attachment of a parody of The 12 Days of Christmas. At first I almost just archived it on general principle. And then I listened to it. And it was hilarious. I decided that since it was a parody, it got to go in a different category than “Christmas-Music” in my brain and I tagged it instead as “Hilarious-Parodies Humor TechStars.”
David asked me to send him a quick video of me lip syncing “Fiiiiiive sleepless weeeeks.” That was easy and I appear at 2:17 looking a little like Ted Kaczynski.
I thought the lyrics were priceless. I hope I don’t get blocked because of SOPA.
On the twelfth day of Techstars my startup gave to me
Twelve companies funded
Eleven piping pizzas
Ten pitch sessions
Nine servers crashing
Eight mentor meetings
Seven cups of coffee
Fiiiiiive sleepless weeeeks
Three sexless months
And a space to work in rent freeeeeee
Turn of your lights, close your door, and full screen this five minute video. It’s an incredibly time lapse video of the journey of the International Space Station (from one of my favorite random sites – NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day) around Earth. It’ll put whatever you are working on in perspective.
A week ago, Fred Wilson wrote a post titled Etsy Gift Finder. In it he described a new Etsy feature that uses your Facebook friends info to suggest gifts for your friends. He picked out what he called “a clay Farmville sheep thingy” and bought it for me. As you can see it has already made friends with Yoda but appears a little scared of my ray gun.
It arrived today with a nice order slip #41270774 (I love order slip numbers and trying to figure out the algorithm for them). It’s cool and a great example of “social shopping.”
Thanks Fred. I’ll definitely use the Etsy Gift Finder for some of my random gifts since I don’t believe in holidays, but just send people gifts whenever I feel like it. And thanks to ElvenStarClayworks for making the clay Farmville sheep thingy!
