The Orbotix Sphero in Action

Want to see a robotic ball controlled by a smartphone?  Take a look at the Orbotix Sphero Sneak Peek Video below.

Sphero Sneak Peek from Paul Berberian on Vimeo.

My friends at Orbortix will be at CES in Booth #5422 North Hall from January 6th to 9th showing off real working robotic balls.  So psyched.

    • Actually, this is a newer video with a much improved ball. BTW – I am
      an investor!

fair enough, but I like the other video as it shows the phone controlling it. Anyway, pretty cool tech. Obviously more potential than just toys… I can see SWAT teams sending this thing into buildings, etc. armed with a camera to assess a dangerous situation.

  • That video is much better of the ball, and the ball itself looks dramatically better, but without the phone as a controller it just looks kind of random if someone doesn’t know the back story.

    • Good point / suggestion. I’ll pass it on to Paul and the gang.

  • Is that just a toy or is there some amazing future application where this is going to?

    • It’s a robotic ball controlled by a smartphone (iPhone and Android).
There’s an API and a software layer that lets you build all kinds of
      cool applications / games.

  • Today, while I was skipping two steps at a time climbing up the stairs at work, I thought to myself: How hard it is to build a robot that can do that and how amazing it is that my brain so easily makes the calculation of how hard my foot has to push the ground in order to skip exactly two steps at a time. We are the machines!
