Gmail Steals Users From Hotmail

Comments (5)

Return Path just released a study showing that a majority of users of Gmail come from existing Microsoft Hotmail users who are switching to Gmail.  The stats are interesting – of new Gmail users that switched from something else:

  • 57% from Hotmail
  • 27% from Yahoo
  • 16% from AOL, MSN, and Comcast

How many people use Return Path? “57% of the 1000? gmail users registered with Return Path migrated from Hotmail”

  • Matt Blumberg

Return Path receives email change of address registrations from consumers at the rate of 30,000 to 60,000 per day. The mere fact that the number of Gmail registrations as a percentage of our total usership is so low is interesting in and of itself, let alone the relative percentages of different ISPs from which Gmail is stealing share. -Matt
